Chrystia Freeland Announces New Economic Measures for Canada

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland, held a press conference today to unveil a series of new economic measures aimed at supporting Canadians and businesses during these challenging times.

The government's plan includes extending the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) program until June 2021, providing additional support for small businesses through the Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA), and introducing a new rent subsidy program for businesses affected by COVID-19 restrictions.

"We know that many Canadians and businesses are still facing significant challenges due to the ongoing pandemic," said Minister Freeland. "These measures will provide much-needed support to help them through this difficult period and ensure a strong economic recovery."

The government also announced plans to invest in job creation and skills training programs to help Canadians who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic transition back into the workforce.

"Our government is committed to supporting Canadians every step of the way as we navigate this crisis and build back better," added Minister Freeland. "By investing in our people and our businesses, we can create a more resilient and inclusive economy for all Canadians."

The new measures are expected to provide billions of dollars in additional support for Canadians and businesses, as the country continues to grapple with the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic.
